Yamaguchi Sightseeing Taxi
This sightseeing cab course focuses on Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, with the aim of taking you on a historical tour. The period is from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji era. The tour will take you to the stage where Shoin Yoshida, the loyalist leader of the Imperialists, played an active role, as well as to the footsteps of the late Bakumatsu period (the period of the Tokugawa Shogunate) warriors who were involved in the Meiji Restoration.

Hagiokan is a roadside station located along Prefectural route 32. There are a rest area, shops and Shoin museum which displays materials regarding to Shokasonjuku and Shoin Yoshida who was a philosopher in the end of Edo period. Also there is a restaurant which serves Kenran beef, it’s a specialty of Yamaguchi prefecture.
This is a cemetery of Shoin’s family with Yurinosuke Sugi, Daisuke Yoshida, Fuminoshin Tamaki, Genzui Kusaka and a disciple Shinsaku Takasugi standing in a row. Also there is a born place of Shoin and Fumi nearby.
There are many historical ruins related to Shoin Yoshida inside, such as Shoka-Sonjuku, a private school produced many talented people working for Japanese modernization and Shoin history museum, and Shiseikan treasure house. There is an old residence where Shoin was confined nearby.
Hagi Sea mart is a roadside station offering fresh foods from producers of north Yamaguchi include Hagi, and generate delicious food culture created by castle town Hagi.
Senfukuji is a family temple of Shoin Yoshida who produced many loyalist at Shoka-Sonjuku in the end of Edo period. There is a family tree of Yoshida family at the mail hall and also pictures of Shoin’s brother taken after Meiji period remains.
Hagi castle town is grid-shaped town located outside Hagi caslte and there were samurai residence or town house standing in a row. Hagi is still a town where you can walk around with old map because there are still many old street and samurai residence built in Edo period.
This place has a roller stating area and a rest area with roof, providing good view of Hagi delta. There is also a relay station of TV and radio of Hagi city.
This place is called “Namidamatsu” because people shed tears of separation by looking back Hagi town between pine trees. Shoin made a Haiku featuring this place when he was sent to Edo, which made this place popular.
